Home Projects: Bedroom

The last month has been filled with unpacking and situating furniture until I decide how I want to decorate. The NUMBER ONE agonizing thing about moving is having to re-decorate your space while also having to unpack and situate everything until you decide where you want it to go....and how you want it to look. We've officially finished situating the furniture we have and want to get a few more pieces to complete some of the rooms...but now...decorating!

My current project (the living room was really the first project but I'm almost done--photos to come!..so I've moved on to the bedroom) is our bedroom. I'm trying to figure out color schemes and what meshes well, while being tortured, tempted, and enticed by Pinterest....you kill me!

Some of the bedrooms, bedroom decor, and items I have been eyeing lately on pinterest:

striped walls- yes. mixing patterns - yes. i just love the pillow-yes.

neutrals - yes. exposed wood ceiling beams - yes, crisp white sheets - yes...i can keep going about this one!

simplistic - yes. patterned pillows-yes. earthy wooden night stand- yes.

As you can tell my taste is ALL over the place right now. Hopefully I narrow it down soon!
Updates coming soon : )

El Mercado

David and I went exploring last weekend to see what we could find in the city. I had been googling things to do in San Antonio all morning and decided we should go to El Mercado.  Market Square is in downtown in San Antonio- a square filled with authentic Mexican dining, live music, small shops, art, and more. On Saturdays there is dancing, music, delicious food & drinks, and some awesome shopping for some great cultural goodies.

We had fun taking in all of the bright colors, clothing, souvenirs, and the churros! Ah, they were so good! It was the day before I started the Whole30 and I totally ended my eating streak with a bang...I have dreams about the churros - so delicious!

Mexican flower halos we found in one of the shops! The sweet store owner showed us how to wear them. Aren't they adorable? I bought about 5 of them for all of the girls in my family!

After we did a little shopping, watched some of the dancing, and ate churros - we went to some of the food trucks on the street and ate some more : )

It was the absolute perfect day with sunny, 75 degree weather. After we left Market Square, we walked around town, taking in some of the beautiful homes in the historical district and ended the day at a cute little ice house that looked like we were sitting in a backyard.

A gate in front of one of the historical homes we saw. We loved this house and David loved the lions....

We sat here for some guacamole and chips before we went to dinner. When I say we ate our way around town--- we did just that.

Dinner was at ....maybe my favorite restaurant thus far in San Antonio; Piatti's.

It was a very fun weekend leading up to a really stressful work week....
I'm a week behind but trying my best to update : )
Have a good week!

Whole30

I recently began this new eating plan (above) and I'm sure everyone has heard of it and I'm basically just late to the party (as usual)! Since we have moved to San Antonio (and well, for pretty much most of the last 3 years) I have been battling horrible allergies that make me miserable most of the time. It's really not a fun way to spend my days. The only solution is allergy medicine....EVERY DAY.

I'm weird about taking medicine and fear it's long-term side effects. I start to think about what it can do to my liver in 10 years and then what other ailments can plague my body....then my mind turns to mush and anxiety sets in (it's not really this bad....but I do worry about it constantly). I don't want to have to take a pill every day for allergies and so when someone at work mentioned this Whole30 plan and that it completed changed her life and rid her of what she thought to be 'seasonal allergies' for good....I figured I would do some research.

I ended up reading the Whole30 book on my iPad in a day and read some testimonials and decided....I'm going to do it. It's a really primal approach to eating healthy...in my opinion. It's all natural, whole foods to feed your body cutting out the dairy, sugar, grains, and legumes. After the 30 days of 'clean eating' you begin to reintroduce the foods that were initially cut out one-by-one to see how they affect you. It seems like a pretty cool process, right?

Anyway I am on Day5 so far and feeling pretty good. The second day was a little rough for me - going through detox. I am a fairly healthy eater to begin with but a lot of my energy comes from grains and those sneaky sugars every once in a while - which I am realizing isn't the best. I'm feeling a lot lighter mentally and have a bunch of energy so far. Normally on weekends - you can try to drag me out of bed - but it won't work. I have been waking up without a struggle the past few days and that has been amazing!

Since we have moved to San Antonio my workouts have taken a hit a well - besides a few various yoga classes I can attend during the week. My work schedule has been quite consuming and stressful the past few weeks which leaves little time for "me"....so this new program has actually forced me to make time to cook healthy meals and have that energy for a small workout.

Figured I'd share - because I will probably be sharing some meals and progress in my blog here - why not? If you're interested in the Whole30...I have linked it throughout this post but you can find the website here !

Have a good weekend : )
