I was scoping HelloGiggles yesterday (one of my favorite girl-power websites!) and stumbled upon an article about the age of myspace, xanga, livejournal, aol, instant messages, and more. Yeah, you remember those days? I definitely do. I was all over myspace and finding any way I could to write about anything and everything. Facebook came along and all of those pioneers of social networking vanished with blogger, wordpress, twitter, and so many others taking their place. Now we suffer through Timeline changes on facebook and the fact that all of our friends have the option of going down our memory lane. I think it's actually crazy to think of how much social networking has evolved in the past 10 years but ...back to what I was saying.
After reading the article on HelloGiggles, I googled myself just to see what would come up if anyone cared to check up on me. I wanted to check myself out first. The amount of links I found that all pertained to me was absolutely insane! I found picasa, flickr, etsy, facebook, twitter, tumblr, blogger accounts and so many more. Half of them I still use and others not so much and I definitely don't want anyone else to look at those. Talk about an open photo album of my past, not that there is anything incriminating, but who wants to see them anyway ; ) !
I went through and made a list of the accounts I needed to delete and now I am going on a cleansing spree. Cleaning out all of my accounts that I definitely do not need anymore. You all should check yourself out on the internet and see how much of a presence you have on there. You may be totally surprised like I was or you may totally go down memory lane and enjoy it, who knows.
I think with this day and age, employers are looking more and more into their potential employees and it is always best to do a clean sweep every once in a while and make sure everything you have on the internet is appropriate for anyone to see.
Either way, the article I read was hilarious and what I found was interesting as well.
So check yourself out before someone else does!
xoxo
